Searching Columbia County Civil Dockets
Court level comes first. A broad civil, domestic, equity, or land-title matter belongs in Superior Court. The Superior page describes that work. Dispossessories, garnishments, and other lower-court matters go to Magistrate. That court keeps a separate search.
For a Superior civil or domestic case, open the Clerk case-information page. Follow its public link to the Columbia County docket portal. A result can list plaintiff, defendant, case type, proceeding history, case number, party name, judge name, and CSE number.
- Identify the court and civil category before entering a search term.
- Open the clerk’s case-information page and select Civil Search.
- Enter the action or case number when known, or search by party name and then judge name if needed.
- Confirm the case type, parties, court, and proceeding history before treating a result as the right case.
- Expand the result with the plus sign, note the latest setting, and ask the clerk for a filed or certified document when proof is required.
Columbia County Civil Search Fields
The Columbia portal is a county display, not a statewide name search. Plaintiff, defendant, case type, and proceeding history are the fields the clerk describes. The portal does not certify its data or promise document images. Your best key is the exact case number. After that, verify party and judge.
One more layer sits above the county system. The Georgia court rule amendments source tracks statewide rules. Those rules govern electronic court records and filing practice. When a docket display and a filed record seem to differ in detail, that official source explains the rule context.

This is a public rules source, not a sample civil case. It shows the rule layer behind the county portal and the clerk's records process.
| Field or control | Use | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Civil Search | Selects the Superior civil and domestic search layer. | Case type, parties, and court. |
| Case Number | Narrows to a known action. | Exact local number and any punctuation. |
| Party Name | Finds a case when the number is not known. | Spelling, role, and matching case type. |
| Judge Name | Helps narrow a result or match a calendar. | Assigned judge and the latest setting. |
| CSE Number | Provides a separate optional search key identified by the portal. | Do not substitute it for the action number. |
| Expand control | Opens the proceeding-history portion of the result. | Filings, service, motions, orders, settings, and judgments in date order. |
A name-only hit can point to Superior, Magistrate, an appeal, or another court level. Check the caption and case type before you rely on it.
Inside a Columbia County Civil Docket
Uniform Superior Court Rule 39.2 lists the civil fields a clerk maintains. Filing, service, cost, trial, disposition, judgment, appeal, and storage references all appear there. The public portal shows only a subset. A docket entry is not the complaint or order. It is not the transcript or certified judgment behind it either.
| Action number | The unique action identifier used for the civil case. |
|---|---|
| Cause of action | The civil description of the claim or legal matter entered on the docket. |
| Parties and attorneys | Plaintiffs, defendants, petitioners, respondents, and attorney entries connected with the case. |
| Filing date | The date the complaint, motion, petition, or other paper was entered. |
| Costs | Advance costs paid at filing and additional costs recorded later. |
| Service date and type | When and how process was served, when that field is recorded. |
| Trial date | The date set for trial, which can be changed by a later order or calendar entry. |
| Jury or non-jury | The trial-status indicator described by the civil docket rule. |
| Disposition and judgment | The disposition date, type, judgment type, and related outcome entries. |
| Verdict or mistrial | The party receiving a verdict and any mistrial entry, when applicable. |
| Fi. fa. and final record | Execution, minutes, final-record, and related judgment references. |
| Appeals and storage | Notice of appeal, remittitur, transcript, pleadings summary, and off-site-storage references. |
Rule 39.2 reaches complaints, motions, domestic matters, contempt, modifications, and other civil actions, with adoptions excluded. A proceeding history may run from service to motion, setting, order, judgment, and appeal without showing each document. Ask for the paper when the summary falls short.
Columbia County Civil Courts Compared
Court level shapes both the search route and the case type. The official Magistrate source covers claims up to $15,000, dispossessories, garnishments, warrants, and county ordinances. Superior handles broader contract, tort, domestic, equity, and land-title work.

This leads to the county's Magistrate instructions, where search fields and e-filing details sit with jurisdiction.
| Route | Typical Columbia civil matters | First search or request |
|---|---|---|
| Superior Court | General civil, domestic relations, divorce, equity, land title, contract, tort, condemnation, insurance, and appeals. | Superior Clerk Civil Search, then the clerk or judge calendar. |
| Magistrate Court | Dispossessories, garnishments, warrants, county ordinance matters, and general civil claims up to $15,000. | County Magistrate Civil Case Records search. |
| Municipal court | City ordinance and citation matters kept by the city clerk. | The issuing city’s municipal clerk. |
The $15,000 boundary is a clue, not a shortcut. A dollar amount never turns an equity, divorce, or title-to-land claim into a Magistrate matter. When a caption is unclear, confirm with the clerk.
Civil Case Types on the Docket
Superior takes the broad civil filings; Magistrate takes its assigned lower-court work. Appeals, writs, condemnation, insurance, family, child-support, custody, contempt, and related filings are among the types the clerk identifies. Always read a result alongside its case type.
- Contract, debt, premises-liability, tort, condemnation, and insurance matters in the Superior civil layer.
- Divorce, domestic-relations, custody, child-support, contempt, and modification filings described by the Superior Clerk.
- Equity matters and title-to-land actions assigned to Superior Court jurisdiction.
- Dispossessories, garnishments, county ordinance matters, and general civil claims up to $15,000 in Magistrate Court.
- Appeals from lower courts and later appellate references recorded in the Superior civil history.
Adoption, probate, license, vital, and municipal records sit with separate custodians. One portal is never every court record.
Columbia County Civil Magistrate Route
The county Magistrate Court page lays out the lower-court search steps. With a known number, choose Civil Case Records. Choose Case, enter the number, and select Search. For a party search, choose Party. Enter the first three letters of each name followed by an asterisk.
These examples apply to Magistrate Court only, not Superior Court:
| Search mode | Published example | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-2009 case number | 2008SCG001234 or 2007SCD000123 | Use the county’s older-number pattern when the record is from that period. |
| 2009 and later case number | 2009SCG100 or 2009SCS1234 | Use the newer published pattern for a Magistrate civil search. |
| Party search | Jon* and Mic* | Three letters plus an asterisk for last and first name fields. |
Magistrate civil e-filing goes through Tyler eFileGA, which the county set live on July 28, 2026. The service covers Civil Cases and Dispossessories at $14 per case per party. Note the limit: this is filing access, not a public docket.

The Tyler image shows the provider landing state. Use the county instructions for viewing and the provider only for filing.
Civil Docket Settings and Hearings
Civil settings show up in several places. Check the proceeding history, the Clerk calendar archive, or a judge's own calendar. Dated files can be revised or appended later. Labels vary, including motion, calendar call, weekly calendar, and civil jury trial. A motion setting is not a trial result. No calendar replaces the latest docket or order.
Before you travel, confirm case number, judge, date, time, and courtroom. Disagreement between sources means checking the newest file and calling the clerk or case manager. The Columbia County Court Dates page walks through those checks.
Domestic, general civil, equity, and land-title matters may run on different calendars. The setting type tells you the court task. A later order, reset, judgment, or appeal may never appear on the calendar at all.
Columbia County Civil E-Filing Choices
The Superior Clerk routes civil and domestic filings through PeachCourt. That provider requires a registered email and password. Do not confuse it with the free county docket display. Real-estate filings go separately to GSCCCA, with the clerk remaining custodian.
The clerk's forms and downloads index covers paperwork. It lists civil, domestic, subpoena, protective-order, jury, and related forms. A form marks a filing type. It does not mean acceptance on a case.

The forms image points to official filing resources. For an entry, use the case portal; for filing details, follow the clerk or provider instructions. The clerk also maintains a separate e-filing source that describes the public-terminal route for people who cannot file from home.

The e-filing image shows the routing source. Public terminals exist for filers without internet access, and viewing a docket stays separate from filing into it. In short, Civil Search handles viewing, PeachCourt or Tyler eFileGA handles filing, and the clerk handles copies.
Civil Docket Access Rules
Access to a court record starts public, but it is not unlimited. Rule 21 opens records to the public unless law or a qualifying order limits access. Rule 21.6 governs protected identifiers and redacted copies. Adoption, juvenile, sealed, and protected portions may require a separate process.
The county's open-records instructions steer court files away from the Public Records Center. Superior Court requests go to the Superior Clerk, and Magistrate matters go to Magistrate Court. The clerk's schedule governs certified copies.
Civil access rules in plain terms:
Rule 21 starts with public access but permits a defined limitation order when the rule’s public-interest and privacy standards are met.
Rule 21.6 and O.C.G.A. §9-11-7.1 support redaction and protect specified identifiers rather than placing sensitive information in a public filing.
Rule 39.2 describes the civil docket fields a clerk maintains, but the rule does not make every underlying document a free online image.
County routing instructions direct court-file requests to the court clerk instead of the general county records center.
Columbia County Civil Copy Route
The clerk's current fee schedule breaks out plain, assisted, certified, exemplified, filing, service, and appeal charges. The portal can locate a case, but a certified order or judgment comes only from the clerk.

The image shows the local schedule; confirm the current total for many pages or a seal.
| Item | Published amount | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Uncertified copy, unassisted | $0.50 per page | Plain copy when staff assistance is not required. |
| Uncertified copy, assistance required | $1.00 per page | Copy where staff must assist with retrieval or production. |
| Certified copy | $2.00 plus $1.00 per page | Certified judgment, order, pleading, or other document. |
| Certification or exemplification with seal | $4.00 plus $1.00 per page | Certification or exemplified record with a seal. |
| Civil subpoena | $5.00 | Issuance; a case number is required. |
| Civil filing | $214.00 | Filing charge, not a docket-view or copy fee. |
| Publication | $125.00 | Published civil or domestic filing line item. |
For a digital certified document, the clerk's document-request page routes users to GSCCCA eCertification. The 24/7 sequence runs through an account, then Columbia and record type, copy level, request, clerk processing, payment authorization, and a secure PDF. No document price or turnaround promise appears there.
Walk-in service differs by location. Evans takes in-person requests during published weekday hours, while Appling keeps a Tuesday counter except on holidays. Mail requests go to P.O. Box 2930, Evans, Georgia 30809. The clerk publishes 706-312-7139 and clerkinfo@columbia.gsccca.org, so confirm payment and identity steps before mailing.
